Flying

Question: Do you guys have an estimate for how long the average EMT spends on the ground before they can get an air job?

response to how long as a ground EMT...

I have worked for a few different flight programs that all had different requirements for your experience as a ground paramedic. Most services that I know of expect you to be an EMTP with experience in a busy 911 system. Most programs that are CAMTS accredited require at least 3 years to apply and many of the more "established" (for lack of a better term) services prefer 5. My advice, for what it's worth, is to work for a busy service with a good mix of 911 and interfacility calls as good experience is gained from both. Having your CCEMTP or other advanced certifications puts you a step above some other applicants and shows that you have the dedication and drive to advance yourself. Teaching and instructor certifications also look good on a resume.
